The Program on Constitutionalism and Democracy sponsors an extracurricular book society that encourages undergraduates to study classic works of political theory in a close-knit setting. We usually meet for dinner on a weekday evening during the semester. Dinner and copies of the texts are provided for students who can make the intellectual commitment.
Recent Book Society texts include:
Spring 2024: The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin
Fall 2023: The Discourses on Livy by Machiavelli
Spring 2023: Ordinary Vices by Judith Shklar
Spring 2022: Persian Letters by Montesquieu
Fall 2021: Utopia by Thomas More and New Atlantis by Francis Bacon
